Transcendence Theatre Company®, the Sonoma home for stage and screen luminaries, realized these stories are fascinating for their fun and failures. They built a show around seven women who spanned seven decades of singing and dancing, and Ladies of Broadway was born.

What happens when women from diverse backgrounds—each sharing the same determination to succeed on Broadway—come together to tell their stories? That’s the heart of TTC’s latest production, Ladies of Broadway. Led by Terry Burrell, Galyana Castillo, Diane J. Findlay, Kate Marilley, Vasthy Mompoint, Kristin Piro, and Libby Servais, the show blends quirky personal anecdotes with beloved Broadway classics, both old and new, creating an evening that is equal parts heartfelt and celebratory.

Transcendence Theatre Company® is wrapping up its summer season with Ladies of Broadway, a powerhouse, concert-style musical that celebrates the trailblazing women of the Broadway stage.

What happens when heartbreak fuels a generation-defining sound? That’s the soulful question at the heart of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, the jukebox biopic that charts one woman’s rise from teenage songwriter to pop music legend. Based on King’s real-life journey, the show follows her early days penning hits in Manhattan’s Brill Building, her creative partnership (and complicated marriage) with lyricist Gerry Goffin, and her eventual emergence as a powerhouse solo artist.

It’s been fourteen years since the Transcendence Theatre Company® landed and took root in the Sonoma Valley with their Broadway-caliber musical revues. They added the occasional fully-produced Broadway show to their repertoire in 2018 with A Chorus Line and in 2023 they showed The Full Monty in Glen Ellen.

Sonoma County’s Transcendence Theatre Company’s® motto is “Best Night Ever®,” and it seems with each production they strive to make that “best” just a little bit better. So it is with their most recent work, a delightful staging of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, which fills a glorious summer night in Sonoma with even more glorious music, presented by a cast with tremendous skills–as both singers and actors. As its title suggests, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical tells the story of how a relatively shy Brooklyn girl used her musical talents–and not insignificant ambition–to become the most successful female songwriter of the 20th century.

Sonoma County’s home-grown musical revue troupe Transcendence Theatre Company® has launched a wonderful production of Douglas McGrath’s theatrical biography Beautiful – the Carole King Musical.

Carole King either wrote or co-wrote some of the most iconic songs of the ‘60s and ‘70s: “The Loco-Motion,” “Up on the Roof,” “I Feel the Earth Move,” “One Fine Day,” “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “You’ve Got a Friend,” “Beautiful.”

Transcendence Theatre Company’s ® Broadway Under the Stars earned a second place spot in Newsweek magazine’s top 10 list of “Best Outdoor Theater Performances” in the country. Transcendence Theatre, now in its 14th season, closed the curtain on its opening show “Best Night Ever ®’ on June 22 at Sonoma’s Field of Dreams and is gearing up for its next production, ”Beautiful: The Carole King Musical,“ opening on Aug. 7.

The Transcendence Theatre Company welcomed in their 14th season with ‘Broadway’s Best Night Ever,’ featuring some of the greatest songs from favorite musicals spanning multiple generations.  From old classics such as CAROUSEL, GYPSY, and A CHORUS LINE to more modern shows like WICKED, THE NOTEBOOK, and THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, we were transcended to an extraordinary night of musical theater nostalgia for the ultimate Broadway celebration.

An unknown philosopher once said, presumably in the warm, heart-lightening months of summer, “I am sorry for the things I said when it was winter.” We so get that. Summer is the time to shake off the gloom and get playfully lazy. And don’t knock laziness. There is a wrong time for it, and a right time, and as the late great Sonoma writer Sam Keen once said, “Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability.”

Transcendence Theatre Company® has opened a triple-hitter “stars under the stars” summer season with their song-and-dance revue spectacular Broadway’s Best Night Ever®. This veteran production company has been inviting the best and the beautiful talents from Broadway and international touring companies to perform on Sonoma’s stages since 2019.

Dottie and I are fly-fishing on the Missouri River near Craig, Montana, this weekend. We expect to have some of our best fishing days ever.

We’re looking forward to that trip, but regret that we’ll miss the second weekend of Transcendence Theater’s “Best Night Ever®” show here in Sonoma at their enhanced and improved summer-season venue at the Field of Dreams. We saw the show once already, last Friday night. However, it was so good that we regret not being able to see it a second time.

As a former New Yorker, I grew up enchanted by the magic of Broadway—the lights, the energy, the unforgettable performances and shows that define Manhattan’s theater scene. While I’ve enjoyed plenty of outdoor concerts and wine country events since living in the Bay Area, I’ve never experienced a Broadway Show under the stars—until now. I’m thrilled for the upcoming 14th annual summer season of Transcendence Theatre Company®(TTC) Broadway Under the Stars taking place at Sonoma’s Field of Dreams, just a block from the town’s historic plaza.

Transcendence Theatre Company and Marin Theatre team up to present a new medley of Broadway song-and-dance numbers and classic holiday songs, performed by Broadway veterans and up-and-coming entertainers … Suitable for all ages, “Broadway Holiday” marks the first time Sonoma-based Transcendence Theatre will bring a show to Marin Theatre’s venue in Mill Valley and then restage it in the city of Sonoma’s historic Sebastiani Theatre on Sonoma Plaza.

Transcendence Theatre Company in Sonoma, California is looking for a seasonal Production Coordinator to join its production management team for the summer. The seasonal contract runs March 25–September 30 and receives a weekly salary.

Troy Quinn, named the new Pops conductor of Santa Rosa Symphony last May, will conduct his first pops series concert, “Classical Mystery Tour — The Music of the Beatles,” with the orchestra Feb. 16, and it’ll be a packed house.

Quinn made his conducting debut in Sonoma County on July 4, when he led the Santa Rosa Symphony in collaboration with Transcendence Theatre Company for the Green Music Center’s annual “4th of July Fireworks Spectacular.”

Sonoma City Council approved changes for the 2025 Tuesday Night Market season, with enhancements to benefit vendors, improve the community experience, and foster green initiatives and youth programs.

A special market will be held the week of the Fourth of July and the City Party will be integrated into the market to avoid scheduling conflicts with Transcendence Theatre Company performances.

The Transcendence Theatre Company will celebrate its tenth Holiday Production this month, with one set of performances at Sonoma’s Sebastiani Theatre and another at Marin Theatre in Mill Valley.

The Broadway Holiday production, an all-new program promising to dazzle and delight, will present two exciting firsts – the first time the production has been staged at Sonoma’s historic Sebastiani Theatre – December 18-19 – and the first time the Transcendence Theatre Company has presented a production in Marin County. The Marin production will be staged at the Marin Theatre in Mill Valley, presented by arts patron Vickie Soulier, on December 12-15.

Experience the magic of Broadway Holiday at Sebastiani Theatre in Sonoma on December 18-19. Featuring performers from popular shows like Frozen and Wicked, this production promises festive music and entertainment.

Transcendence Theatre Company’s third show of the season “Dancing in the Street,” running Aug. 15-18, is a celebration of summer music from beloved singer-songwriters and today’s hitmakers to Motown classics.

Transcendence describes the performance as “a sizzling block party,” with featured music including songs by Whitney Houston, Elton John and Bruno Mars.

The show is directed and choreographed by Eric Jackson, associate artistic director at Salt Lake City Pioneer Theatre. He previously worked with Transcendence for seven years as a performer, costume designer, props master and stage manager, among other roles.
