This has been an exciting summer so far, and we have enjoyed sharing our first three productions with the Sonoma Community and the many visitors to our area. We hope you plan to attend our upcoming production September 19-22 | The Gala: A Sentimental Journey – it will be a magical night of classic Broadway you won’t want to miss! We are eager to share with you some exciting news and key updates about Transcendence Theatre Company. While California State Parks leadership in Sacramento have cut off communication about the CEQA process and the path to return to the Park, we are working with partners to put incredible plans in place for Broadway Under the Stars to bring this community together for all the Summers to come! We are grateful to Jack London Park Partners, the nonprofit organization operating the park for the last 12 years, who have been advocating and leading the effort for Transcendence’s return. Please continue to support the Park and our partnership with Jack London Park Partners. |
BROADWAY UNDER THE STARS IN SONOMA |
We are now in talks with the City of Sonoma to keep Transcendence in the Field of Dreams for a multi-year-term agreement, and to expand and build upon what we started this summer. We will keep you updated when the plans are finalized. The audience response to the 2024 Summer Season in Downtown Sonoma has been astounding, with tremendous critical and audience response, and a significant boost to the local economy. For All Events called the season “A must see!” and BroadwayWorld recommended, “Make Transcendence part of your summer tradition.” First-time attendee Anne Marie L. from Santa Rosa raved “The show was marvelous – can’t wait to go again!” and long-time attendee Rona W. from Marin proclaimed, “I hope the powers-that-be in Sonoma understand that Transcendence is the gem of Sonoma and do everything they can to find them a permanent venue!” One-third of our audiences so far have come from Sonoma Valley, with two-thirds from outside the area. This includes the greater Bay Area, neighboring communities such as Napa, Marin, and Santa Rosa, and many states, including Illinois, Florida, New York, and Washington. Of those attendees, nearly half (47%) dined at local restaurants, while one out of five visited a winery or tasting room, and shopped at a local store. Transcendence continues to not only contribute to the cultural life of our beloved community but also provides a positive tourism and economic impact to the surrounding businesses. |
LOOKING AHEAD |
As we continue building and expanding our Broadway Under the Stars season here in Downtown Sonoma, we want to share some of our dreams for the future. |
OUR THIRD BROADWAY MUSICAL |
You may have seen the recent Poll we sent out – if not, please fill it out here. We aim to produce another Broadway musical in an upcoming season! We’d love to hear what musicals you are most interested in seeing produced here in Sonoma. Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts! |
COMMUNITY NIGHTS |
We have expanded our community nights this season with Pride Night, Family Night, Pet’s Lifeline Night, and the Block Party – Dance Zone for our recent production of Dancing in the Street. We also feature community partners for each show of the season. We aim to continue broadening this initiative to welcome all members of the community to Broadway Under the Stars in an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. |
TRANSCENDENCE FOR ALL |
Transcendence for All means theatre as an opportunity to unite our diverse community with creative ways to make theatre more available to all. We look forward to continuing the growth of this initiative, including Latinx performance nights with themed pre-show entertainment, Latinx owned food vendors and wineries, and bilingual staff on site; designated performances that support the visually and hearing impaired with interpreters signing the show and braille programs; youth tickets & pricing including our Family night $5.00 tickets and ensuring ticket prices remain accessible to all; expanding access to performances, rehearsals, kids camp and educational workshops with organizations and people who are historically and systemically marginalized in the community, and more. Our profound community impact over the years includes hosting 625 kid campers, inspiring 11,500 youth through our artist education programs, hiring 100+ apprentices, producing 170 community engagement projects, donating 8,750 tickets, raising over $750,000+ in cash for local nonprofit partners, and of course, entertaining over half a million audience members since inception. |
STAY TUNED |
We will have more announcements to come. Make sure you attend The Gala: A Sentimental Journey, and we will provide live updates from the stage at each performance! The future is bright, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Thank you so much for your continued support. |
