From cruise ships to regional stages across the country, Kyle Kemph has brought his powerhouse vocals and dynamic stage presence to audiences far and wide. Now, he returns for his 11th Transcendence production – bringing his signature energy to Broadway’s Best Night Ever®. Originally from Ohio and now based in Las Vegas with his new bride, Maddie, Kyle is no stranger to the magic of performing under the stars in Sonoma. We caught up with him to chat about favorite memories, opening night excitement, and what makes Transcendence feel like home.
1: You’ve performed with Transcendence many times – what keeps bringing you back to the stage under the stars in Sonoma?
I first heard about Transcendence back in 2019 from my “Dot” and mentor, Susan Draus. She told me about a theatre built by artists, for artists—a place rooted in encouragement, where we create one-of-a-kind experiences, reignite our passion and our joy for performing, while sharing the stage with a diverse group of inspiring storytellers. In her words, “Transcendence is an escape from the cynicism of the industry—it reminds you of your WHY.” I was sold. There’s a magic in that amphitheater under the stars that keeps calling me back.

2: You’re part of Broadway’s Best Night Ever ®, the first show of the season, what can audiences expect from this high-energy kickoff?
I think the title says it all. Audiences can expect an electrifying celebration of Broadway’s greatest hits—classic showstoppers with fresh new takes and a whole lot of heart. Broadway’s Best Night Ever ® is exactly what it sounds like: a joy-filled, high-energy kickoff to the season that brings together powerhouse vocals, dynamic choreography, and a deep respect and appreciation for the stage.

3: Do you have a favorite memory or moment from a past Transcendence performance that’s stayed with you?
It’s hard to choose just one favorite moment—every show, every ensemble, and every familiar face, both in the audience and around town, has left a genuine and lasting impression on me. Over the years, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to build relationships and create memories that I’ll always hold close.
One moment that stands out is performing Freddie Mercury’s “The Show Must Go On” in Hooray for Hollywood (TTC ’22). That performance was already an emotional and artistic high point for me—but to then be honored with the BroadwayWorld San Francisco Award for Best Performer in a Musical, voted on by the community, made it even more meaningful.
To be recognized in that way, by the very people who’ve shared these unforgettable experiences, was incredibly humbling. It reminded me just how special this place is—and how deeply our work can resonate.
4: What’s your personal pre-show ritual or routine before you hit the stage at the Field of Dreams?
I love arriving early and connecting with the audience during our pre-show picnic. It’s a chance to welcome the community into our “arena,” catch up with old friends, and meet new ones. That personal interaction creates a bond that genuinely fuels our work on stage – it makes the performance feel more connected, more alive.
As I always say, “A good audience makes for a good show.” And getting to meet them beforehand? That’s part of the fun.

5: For first-time Transcendence audience members, what would you tell them to expect from the experience—and why should they come see this show?
As a first-time audience member, you can expect an atmosphere of genuine community—where you’ll sit side by side with your neighbors, enjoy a glass of wine, and take in an evening of Broadway-caliber entertainment under the stars. It’s the kind of night that encourages you to laugh, cheer, and maybe even dance a little on your way back to the parking lot. I can personally guarantee that the artists you’ll see on stage (and behind the scenes) are stars among stars. This isn’t just a show; it’s an experience.
